HACKERS OF HOLLYWOOD - THE UNFORTUNATE 15

HOLLYWOOD, California - If you've read any of my blog or my posts at various golf forums, you know my name is Frankie C and that I'm the creator of the Over The Top Golf swing. I like to say that "It's the Only golf swing that Everybody can do" because it's true! Using just five set-up changes, you can use your own swing to start hitting longer, straighter shots. This is golf instruction for the rest of us who realize we'll never, ever be scratch golfers.

A friend was good enough to forward an article that listed the 100 most famous celebrity golfers and ranked them by handicap. I'm not certain how old the list is but it has Hayley Joel Osment as being seventeen so it must be pretty recent. I found it interesting that among the bottom portion, that is, the worst golfers, many of them were in some way related by having worked together. A case in point is that among the fourteen celeb golfers tied for next-to-last place (which was reserved for the biggest hacker of them all, surprisingly, Tom Cruise) Patricia Heaton and Brad Garrett appear. Ray Romano must have supplemented his income handsomely back then, insuring that not everybody necessarily loved Raymond. Cameron Diaz and David Spade are in the infamous group, I believe they either dated or are dating. Ex-wife Nicole Kidman appears with Cruise at the bottom of the standings as well. Bad golf can be contagious, I guess, either that or some tend to booze it up a little more than others out there.

Of course I'd love to introduce the unfortunate 15 to Over The Top Golf. None of these people have spare time to do lesson after lesson and then practice that unnatural, unlearnable nonsense pros expect you to do. Trying to make your body do the opposite of what it's comfortable is a maddening experience as optimism inevitably turns into frustration. Over The Top Golf is just so automatic by comparison. Not only is your body telling you "yeah, this is something I can do", your eyes are seeing those long, low shots you were never able to hit before.

What if one of these 15 celebrities reads this blog, orders my DVD and starts bombing them down the fairways of SoCal? They will undoubtedly tell their friends and before long I'll be asked to give lessons to all the Hollywood stars. My telling them to just buy the video won't do, they'll want personal instruction. I'll have to move to LA, start driving a Porsche, taking lunches at the club with the Governator (25 Handicap)....

get cracking - quit hacking

THE STORY OF SANTA’S NEW GOLF SWING

THE STORY OF SANTA’S NEW GOLF SWING
NORTH POLE-The golf season at the North Pole is short so people like Santa, his elves and others from here are very poor golfers. No matter how much they want to, becoming proficient at the game presents the same obstacles year after year. Everyone's got that over the top move. How can one learn a proper swing in the course of a month–and-a-half golf season? And businesses that cater to golfers are rarer than scores in the 80s in these parts. Consumers don’t have a great need to update their lessons and equipment other than stocking up on those orange Top Flites. Poor Santa Claus had reached his wits end.

Most people have conflicts involving business and family. That wasn’t the case with Santa. There’s Mrs. Claus, of course, but her interests by now are mostly trying to manage Santa’s cholesterol. And his work year basically consists of one day. Well, one madcap evening to be precise. You don’t really think it was him who answered your letter in 1962 do you? No, Santa really should be a scratch player but for the ice and snow.

The vast majority of golf instructors are reluctant to travel 3,000 miles for a 45 day golf season so lessons here are practically non-existent. Santa, however, manages to fit a twilight lesson in on Christmas Day at Doral before the reindeer whisk him back to the chilly north. Therein lies St. Nick’s problem. Many of the elves residing at the North Pole are self-taught golfers but they routinely kick Santa’s ass. Every year his trip back home from sunny Miami is filled with optimism at how he would soon squash each and every one of those elves and take their money at the 19th hole. Talk about visions of sugar plums dancing in your head….

But alas, each year saw the same result. Mrs. Claus admonishing Santa for losing his hard-earned cookies and milk to those pesky and opportunistic elves. “The lessons are too difficult” he would cry out. “They are asking a 350 lb. man to swing inside-out, impact the ball with a square clubface and finish in perfect balance on my left side.”

Well guess what? Santa discovered the secret to the elves’ domination. The mystery of how a bunch of dwarfs were able to consistently get into the big guy’s pocket was known as The Over The Top Golf swing . Santa, along with about a half-million hackers throughout the world, had wandered right past the solution to all of their golf-swing problems. The ability to walk confidently up to the tee and smack a long drive straight down the fairway was now in the bag and man, would he make those elves pay.

It was Mrs. Claus who learned about Over The Top Golf from a child’s letter. The youngster had learned the Over The Top Golf swing, began shooting under par and was asking for a new set of Mizunos so he could pursue his dream of playing on the PGA Tour. Santa discovered that, by employing just five set-up changes, he could use his own swing to achieve great results on the links. And of course, by now, his handicap was up to a hefty 30 strokes.

The elves never had a chance.

OVER THE TOP GOLF IN BEAUTIFUL FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA

-
Welcome to beautiful Fort Pierce and the beginning of golf season in South Florida. It's a lot more crowded at the driving range than it has been. Perfect weather will do that.

-
Here's an old linen post card of the clubhouse at Indian Hills, the Fort Pierce muni. There are lots and lots of courses around that offer dirt cheap twilight rates and other specials.
-
-
Like to take an Over The Top Golf lesson? Send me an email then head south on US 1 to the St. Lucie Driving range and we'll get you squared away. Be prepared to hit longer, straighter shots using your own swing.
-

Better yet, take Indian River Drive south. My commute is one of the all-time great scenic road trips. When you get to Midway Rd. turn right and catch US 1 south. You'll see the St. Lucie Range on the right side just south of Easy Street.
-
Yes, the livin' is easy here in South Florida and it only gets better when I have guests drop in.
-
Look forward to seeing you.

GOLF INSTRUCTION - WHY BOTHER?

-
Hey, I used to be a once-in-a-blue-moon golfer. There was work to be done and a family to raise. I remember on the first tee and during all the opening holes how great is was knocking that ball around, regardless of where it ended up.
-

GOLF INSTRUCTION - WHY BOTHER?
-
But I also remember how frustrated and angry I got for the rest of the round when my drives were going more high than long and my irons and wedges kept failing to find greens.
-
Taking lessons from a golf professional means two things. You'll have to change almost everything about your swing. Then you'll have to go and practice what he showed you. Then some more lessons and practice-only to find you still have a crappy over the top swing.
-
Just 5 set-up changes and, with your own swing, no matter how bad it is, you'll be hitting them longer and straight! You won't even have to give up your time in the hammock.

GOLF INSTRUCTION - FEET FIRST

BOSTON, Massachussetts - Just like the popular cable show "What Not To Wear" alerts folks to fashion faux pas, there are a torrent of golf swing faux pas that need to be examined as well. At least according to golf instructors. Just as Stacy and Clinton attempt to rescue people from themselves, fashion-wise, I'll do the same thing for you, golf swing-wise.

GOLF SHOES
GOLF INSTRUCTION - FEET FIRST

It starts from the ground up, your feet and how to position them. How to lift them and put them back down. Where do you distribute your weight, on your heels or the balls of your feet? Should you curl your toes or fan them out like a duck? Clip your nails or let them grow long? $45 Foot Joys or $375 Eccos? What kind of powder, Johnson & Johnson or Gold Bond?

Think that's all? Nope. How about during the backswing-should your left heel come off the ground or not? Is is okay to roll your left foot inward? How about your right foot-let it roll outward a bit or keep the weight inside. A recent and very popular swing method has you placing no weight at all on your right foot. How can that be?

Oh, it be. As well as millions of other absolute horrors you'll encounter while learning to have "a proper golf swing." Your brain can become so cramped in a short amount of time you need prescription drugs to bring you back to earth. Imagine the effects from years of this mental abuse. The weeks directly following a golf lesson should coincide with all weapons being confiscated in case murder or suicide is contemplated by the student. A simply maddening time which, I might add, is usually followed by surrender and a retreat to the old bad swing.

Back to the feet. Should you point your toes outward or straight ahead? I'll just bet there's a pro somewhere who says pigeon-toed is the most effective stance. One would think that moving your feet around during the actual swing can't be a good thing, right? Yet I have seen guys who do it-did they learn this mysterious technique from a golf instructor?

What not to do....the list is as endless as the one detailing things you ARE supposed to do. I think, at least for now, we're done with the feet.

OVER THE TOP GOLF consists of just five set-up changes. Other than that, you will be using your own swing. So, at least as far as the feet are concerned, there's no "what not to do" because what you are already doing is fine.

See you next time when I'll publish another article focusing on a different "what not to do" in your golf swing.
