GOLF INSTRUCTION - THE OVER THE TOP GOLF SWING – AN ALTERNATIVE TO GOLF LESSONS

AN ALTERNATIVE TO GOLF LESSONS
TAMPA, Florida - In the world of golf instruction, there are many paths that you can follow. Choosing the correct one is the key to fulfilling your desire – having a great golf swing. Famous golf instructors like Butch Harmon and David Leadbetter mimic previous golf teachers in that they continue to teach lessons on the foundation of accepted methods. Almost all PGA golf pros build their instruction upon the same platform.

Recently, there have been changes in the landscape of the golfing world. Different and alternative types of golf instruction methods have burst upon the golfing scene. One of them is called OVER THE TOP GOLF. This new golf swing method was created by an amateur golfer whose instruction methods simulate the innate movements of the body instead of requiring the balance & timing so critical in the correct performance of the PGA-type golf swing. As far as golf instruction techniques go, you'll found OVER THE TOP GOLF the easiest to learn. After a brief getting to know you period, you'll be able to grasp the fundamentals of the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing. The results will be amazing! More solid contact, straighter golf shots and, best of all, an enormous amount of new-found confidence standing over the golf ball.

I had to create an alternative to the golf instruction methods that were available to me. The list of golf instructors who have littered my past seems endless. After each lesson, a bit of uncertainty and confusion always lingered. It seemed like I was missing some small, key element that prevented me from making progress. Compounded by the fact that golf instruction isn’t cheap, it's not so difficult to understand why I periodically contemplated leaving the game of golf for good.

To arrive at the golf course brimming with confidence is a very refreshing feeling. Somehow I feel taller and just a little bit more good looking than before. There’s a noticeable spring in my step and I’m just spoiling for a match. Even the club pro noticed my new persona. I’ve got game because of the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing.

Regardless of whether you have a tendency to slice, hook, hit worm-burners or shank the ball, OVER THE TOP GOLF is an alternative instructional method you should look into. To many golfers it might seem an unorthodox golf swing but it gets the ball into the fairway. It also gets you into your opponent’s pocket.

SANTA'S NEW GOLF SWING - AN OVER THE TOP CHRISTMAS STORY

SANTA'S NEW GOLF SWING - AN OVER THE TOP CHRISTMAS STORY

NORTH POLE - The golf season at the North Pole is short so people like Santa, his elves and others from here are very poor golfers. No matter how much they want to, becoming proficient at the game presents the same obstacles year after year. Everyone's got that over the top, outside-in swing path. How can one learn a proper golf swing in the course of a month–and-a-half golf season? And businesses that cater to golfers are rarer than scores in the 80s in these parts. Around Christmas time, consumers here don’t have a great need to update their lessons, equipment, golf instruction videos and DVDs other than to stock up on those orange Top Flites. Poor Santa Claus had reached his wits end.

Most people have conflicts involving business and family. That wasn’t the case with Santa. There’s Mrs. Claus, of course, but her interests by now are mostly trying to manage Santa’s cholesterol. And his work year basically consists of one day.... Well, one madcap evening to be precise. You don’t really think it was him who answered your letter in 1962 do you? No, Santa really should be a scratch player but for the ice and snow.

Most golf instructors are reluctant to travel 3,000 miles for a 45 day golf season so lessons here are practically non-existent. Santa, however, manages to fit a twilight lesson in on Christmas Day at Doral before the reindeer whisk him back to the chilly north. Therein lies St. Nick’s problem. Many of the elves residing at the North Pole are self-taught golfers but they routinely kick Santa’s ass. Every year his trip back home from sunny Miami is filled with optimism at how he would soon squash each and every one of those elves and take their money at the 19th hole. Talk about visions of sugar plums dancing in your head….

But alas, each year saw the same result. Mrs. Claus admonishing Santa for losing his hard-earned cookies and milk to those pesky and opportunistic elves. “The lessons are too difficult” he would cry out. “They are asking a 350 lb. man to swing inside-out, impact the ball with a square clubface and finish in perfect balance on my left side.”

Well guess what? Santa discovered the secret to the elves’ domination. The mystery of how a bunch of dwarfs were able to consistently get into the big guy’s pocket was known as The OVER THE TOP GOLF swing . Santa, along with about a half-million hackers throughout the world, had wandered right past the solution to all of their golf-swing problems. The ability to walk confidently up to the tee and smack a long drive straight down the fairway was now in the bag and man, would he make those elves pay.

It was actually Mrs. Claus who learned about OVER THE TOP GOLF DVD from a child’s letter. The youngster had learned the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing and began shooting under par. The child wrote to ask Santa for a new set of Mizunos so he could pursue his dream of playing on the PGA Tour. In this golf instruction method, Santa discovered that by employing just five set-up changes, he could use his own golf swing to achieve great results on the links - even with his outside-in swing path. And of course, by now, his handicap was up to a hefty 30 strokes.

The elves never had a chance.

GOLF INSTRUCTION - THE REVERSE C, WEIGHT TRANSFER, FINISH POSITION, CURING YOUR SLICE AND OTHER GOLF SWING FLAWS AND ISSUES

THE REVERSE C

PHOENIX, Arizona - Do not....I repeat....do not practice swinging a golf club while standing on a golf ball. Now most of you are saying "OK, I can do that" but, in all seriousness, there is actually a golf swing method that instructs you to do just that - place a golf ball under your left foot to cure the Reverse C. For anyone who isn't familiar with the Reverse C, here's the definition from http://superglossary.com  Reverse C: A finish position to the full swing where the hips are dramatically thrust out toward the target and the head is leaning back with the spine also arched backward. My own definition is a bit simpler, a Reverse C occurs when a golfer hangs back on his left side while attempting to make a full, high finish. The arching of the back creates the appearance of the letter C, but in reverse or a mirror image. This finish position usually results in a slice or other unproductive golf swing issue. No weight transfer occurs therefore power is lost. The OVER THE TOP GOLF swing completely eliminates this golf swing flaw because, as many have learned, one of the features of the swing is a walk-through finish.

Standing on a golf ball is just one of the odd teaching methods you'll find in the world of golf instruction. I've seen golfers being taught to swing brooms, rakes and golf clubs with hinges in the shaft. Remember the scene from the golf movie Tin Cup that shows Roy McEvoy decked out in an array of harnesses and a hat with some sort of aiming device dangling from it? A bit over the top but the spoof illustrated how ridiculous golf instruction methods have become.

Proper weight transfer in the golf swing is imperative if you want to cure your slice. Sure, in typical PGA-style golf instruction it requires balance and timing. Not so in the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing.  Because of the unique finish position, correct weight transfer is automatically achieved. It not only acts to cure a slice but also fixes a myriad of other golf swing flaws including the Reverse C.

AN OVER THE TOP THANKSGIVING IN SOUTH FLORIDA - GOLF INSTRUCTION YOU CAN BE GRATEFUL FOR

GOLF INSTRUCTION YOU CAN BE GRATEFUL FOR

PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida - Thanksgiving in South Florida….there’s nothing quite like it. Golf season is just beginning, dependable east winds cool us off on still-warm days and, on top of that, turkeys taste just as good here as they do in chilly New England. OK, I’ll grant you there’s no sitting around the hearth here in South Florida. Instead, we sit on beaches, enjoy freshly-caught seafood and ride around golf courses like kings and queens. OVER THE TOP GOLF is a golf swing instruction method designed to optimize your own game, from driving the ball to knocking it stiff with your wedges. Even though taking lessons or other golf instruction, OVER THE TOP GOLF included, can be a scary thought, doing it now, when everyone else is, well, sitting around the hearth, makes sense.

Most people reading my articles have a tendency to think that OVER THE TOP GOLF is a way to hit longer and straighter golf shots with an outside-in, or, over the top, golf swing. While this is very true, I’d like readers to know that this golf swing optimization method has also improved the performance of golfers who do swing “on plane.” For those who aren’t familiar with the term, it means to propel the clubhead through the ball on an inside-out swing path. Unfortunately, though, you can only swing on plane through employing mechanics that the vast majority of golfers cannot do. Golf pros will continue trying to teach this way but most of the time, as any honest pro will tell you, their students receive failing grades.

So enjoying great South Florida golf weather and being able to provide results-oriented golf instruction to people is what I’m grateful for this Thanksgiving. If you think you enjoyed golf before, just wait until you optimize your swing with the OVER THE TOP GOLF method. If hope was gone a long time ago, now there's a solution. Not a lesson – this instruction adds the missing piece to the puzzle that is your golf swing. It enables you to maximize your natural potential, not force new swing paths and other uncomfortable and impossible-to-learn techniques on you. I give thanks to everybody who gave me the opportunity to help them hit those long, straight golf shots. And it is my fondest wish on this Thanksgiving that many of you reading this will soon be thanking me - for your great new golf swing!

VERY COOL GOLF SWING INSTRUCTION FROM COOL HAND LUKE

What we have here is a failure to communicate...

Cool Hand Luke
VERY COOL GOLF SWING INSTRUCTION FROM COOL HAND LUKE

FORT PIERCE, Florida - Some of the things people have said to their golf ball after hitting bad golf shots wouldn't be suitable for this golf  swing instruction article or a golf swing instruction DVD. They were communicating all right and with fervor....however, as in most cases where failure is involved, their anger was misdirected. They were really just yelling at themselves, maybe for learning the wrong golf swing in the first place. Sometimes I'll hear my good friend Jimmy Lynch, in perfect Bay Ridge-ese, saying "you fat bastard"  after hitting a screaming hook. Now he's got the right idea. Many of us, however, would rather take it out on our equipment. We've all seen  broken golf clubs in tee side trash containers. And then there's Luke....

So what's Cool Hand Luke doing in a golf swing instruction article? It's true that communication is important if we are trying to learn something like a golf swing. You've got to try to communicate with your golf pro. But, in the end, the most important one you'll need to communicate with is yourself. How's your current golf swing working out? Want to improve? Can you?

It's not difficult for me to imagine Luke taking golf lessons. Just like he did in the movie, he would have made the lesson his own. For readers who don't play golf, you should know that a golf swing must be executed properly in order to make the golf ball go far and reasonably straight. Without some form of golf instruction to guide you I'm afraid to say that you'll quickly affirm your previous opinion that golf is a stupid game.

Golf Pro

Now Luke, this is the proper golf grip.

Luke

Well, boss. This one is a lot more comfortable.

Golf Pro

What's your grip doin' in my golf lesson?

Luke

Now - calling it your grip don't make it right, Boss.

Later on there would also be issues with the takeaway, swing path, position at the top of the backswing,  the downswing, position at impact, the follow through and the importance of the correct usage of every one of  his body parts from extremity to extremity. And let's not forget about balance and timing.....

Golf Pro

Any man forgets my grip spends a night in the box. These here lessons you keep with you. Any man forgets his lesson spends a night in the box. Any student talking back spends a night in the box. You got questions, you come to me. I'm the Golf Pro. I'm responsible for order here. Any man don't keep order spends a night in...

Luke

...the box.

Golf Pro

I hope you ain't going to be a hard case.

Luke

[Smiles, shakes head] .

That was the world of golf  swing instruction as we knew it. Until now, that is. We all know how Cool Hand Luke ended. It's for the same reasom the vast majority of us never become Luke, even for a little while.

There are many paths well-traveled that bring us to reasonably satisfactory conclusions. Not everyone will become a scratch golfer but that fact doesn't upset people as much as you'd think. Probably because all of these paths only provide finite results, there's very little potential for unlimited achievement.

Golf Pro

Sorry, Luke. I'm just doing my job. You gotta appreciate that. I don't like it any more than you.

Luke

Wish you'd stop bein' so good to me, boss.

Golf Pro

What we got here is... failure to communicate.

Luke

Yeah. I guess I gotta find my own way.

It took close to forever but I eventually found my own way. A golf swing so comfortable to do, built on your own chassis, that enables you to perform better than how you're currently doing. Seem improbable? So did eating fifty hard-boiled eggs in an hour.

Luke: I can eat fifty eggs.

Dragline: Nobody can eat fifty eggs.

Society Red: You just said he could eat anything.

Dragline: Did you ever eat fifty eggs?

Luke: Nobody ever eat fifty eggs.

Prisoner: Hey, Babalugats. We got a bet here.

Dragline: My boy says he can eat fifty eggs, he can eat fifty eggs.

Loudmouth Steve: Yeah, but in how long?

Luke: A hour.

Society Red: Well, I believe I'll take part of that wager.

Dragline: Why you got to go and say fifty eggs for? Why not thirty-five or thirty-nine?

Luke: I thought it was a nice round number.

I hope you've enjoyed some memorable quotes that never were in the movie but might have been if it was filmed at a golf course instead of a prison work farm. I also hope that you'll read more of my OVER THE TOP GOLF swing instruction articles, both past and future. Feel free to order my DVD.  Then go out there and shoot a 70!

Also a nice round number.

OPINIONS ON A GOLF SWING - A NEW AND DIFFERENT TYPE OF GOLF INSTRUCTION

A NEW AND DIFFERENT TYPE OF GOLF INSTRUCTION

 One Man's Opinion

Their site is about golf instruction, golf lessons and golf swing optimization. The articles at OVER THE TOP GOLF range from technical to whimsical. Great information for junior golfers, women golfers and senior golfers as well as single-digit handicap golfers who need a change. I fixed my biggest problem - an over the top golf swing - by optimizing it. First, I had to accept the facts that my outside-in swing was an incurable condition and I'll never learn to swing like a golf pro. Like their web site said, I have 100% more confidence standing over the ball now and it was an easy to learn lesson. I think it's the best golf swing. I also like how it looks so different.

Another Man's Opinion

As far as golf instruction, golf lessons or what have you, this OVER THE TOP GOLF optimization method is by far the easiest to learn and most effective teaching that I've found. Up until now I have managed to screw up everything golf pros have tried to teach me over the years. I literally walked right through this course and aced it on the first try. Highly recommend this.

A Third Man's Opinion

10-31-2011 O.K., I GOT YOUR DVD THIS WEEK AND WATCHED IT THREE TIMES BEFORE TAKING IT TO THE COURSE. OF COURSE I DID NOT EXPECT TO CONQUER THE CHANGES IN ONE SESSION. HOWEVER, I SEEMED TO HAVE A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH THE DRIVER. WHEN I STEP THRU THE SHOT, SHOULD I BE STEPPING TOWARD THE ACTUAL TARGET, OR TOWARD THE TARGET TO THE RIGHT OF MY TARGET. HAD A LOTTA TROUBLE WITH HIGH PUSH WITH THE DRIVER. ANY SUGGESTIONS? MAURICE

11-02-2011 FRANKIE, THANK YOU FOR THE PROMPT REPLY. YES, I DID BETTER WITH THE IRONS. IT TAKES NERVE TO AIM AT THE WATER OR OB ON THE SET UP, HOWEVER I AM DETERMINED TO KEEP WITH IT! MAURICE

11-07-2011 FRANKIE, THANKS FOR YOUR FOLLOW UP.  YES, I AM STICKING WITH YOUR INSTRUCTIONS.  HAVING TWO PROBLEMS IN PARTICULAR, AND I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME.   I AM 76 BUT IN BETTER THAN AVERAGE CONDITION FOR MY AGE, BUT STILL 76!  FIRST, MY DRIVER IS STILL THE BIG PROBLEM.  TENDS TO  FEEL AS IF I HAVE HIT IT OFF CENTER, WITH NOT A LOT OF DISTANCE.  SECOND, MY SHOTS TEND TO BE QUITE LOW.  GOOD FOR DISTANCE, BUT TOUGH WHEN I NEED TO CARRY A HAZARD.  THANKS, MAURICE

Like many things in life, each person is affected differently by what they have learned. OVER THE TOP GOLF is instruction that is built on top of your own foundation. So if you swing too quick, you'll continue to swing too quick. The difference is that your golf ball will now go straight. Or straighter. Hang in there, Maurice.

ARE YOU AN AVERAGE GOLFER?

ARE YOU AN AVERAGE GOLFER?

FORT PIERCE, Florida - Naive interpretations of statistics derived from averages may be misleading. Still, many golf-related conclusions are arrived at in this manner. Is there a systematic technique that can be used to determine who or what, exactly, are Average Golfers?

The commonly accepted definition of what an Average Golfer is, usually determined by handicap indexes or other mathematically-based means, has a few counter-intuitive properties. Am I an average golfer? In golf, as in most other sports, differences absolutely exist between the expected value and the true value of how average is estimated. There are also different rules for creating estimates. I'll illustrate just one - how differing geographical locations of all golfers represented in the statistical base can greatly skew the results.

How does the Average Golfer from Florida stack up against the Average Golfer from Maine? One would assume that being able to golf year-around would result in a higher distribution of better players. So how does that theory explain the amazing plethora of talent coming from very cold places like Northern Ireland or Sweden?

Averaging by age, gender, physical characteristics or other means similarly produces varying results. Using a relatively small sampling base, the largest being all golfers everywhere -whom, for instance, would you choose to represent the best example of an Average Golfer at your club? Would choosing someone from the middle of the handicap printout seem like a practical formula? Sure seems simple enough.....except, Henry Quinlan did partner to win the member-guest and also cleaned you out pretty regularly on Wednesdays, can't call him average.....also, throw out Carol Dietrich who won her flight in every tournament and almost pulled off that upset in the Ladies Club Championship......in fact, you'd probably decide that each and every candidate would prove to be decidedly un-average for one reason or another.

After working hard on your putting and all of a sudden everything is going in, not only do you feel above-average, you are. Learning a new golf swing optimization technique like OVER THE TOP GOLF and your finally able to hit a draw you feel anything but average because you're walking tall. You are finding ways to improve your golf game. When you go to sleep at night you feel satisfied which is a decidedly better feeling than, well, average....

There's no such thing as an average golfer yet the average golfer exists in each and every one of us. Stay average or spend fifteen bucks on an eBook that could change your golfing life? You decide.

MOVING PARTS IN THE GOLF SWING - LESS IS BETTER

MOVING PARTS IN THE GOLF SWING - LESS IS BETTER

STUART, Florida - From the ground up, a proper golf swing has many requirements, many moving parts. Foot position and foot movement top the list, so to speak, until we reach the hands which will usually finish at head height or higher. Thinking about going the golf lessons route? The balance, timing and mechanics required to perform a proper golf swing is every bit as crucial to an accomplished golfer as it is to the gymnast on a beam. Your reward for maintaining this synchronization is a long, accurate golf shot. But failing to coordinate just one necessary movement (or lack thereof) can cause complete disarray. Just one example is coming "over the top" or employing an outside-in swing path, which results in a severe lack of yardage. The effort is there but distance can't be created by force alone.

Rather than elaborate on the various components of a proper golf swing, I would rather explain - in layman's terms - some simple truths that apply not only to mechanics in general but to the pursuit of hitting laser-straight 300 yard drives as well - more moving parts lead to a higher likelihood of failure.

Have you, as a golfer, ever endured a prolonged slump? PGA professionals such as David Duval  go through horrific transformations. The journey from championships to missed cuts has been traveled by many unfortunate souls. Eventually most of them make it back but not without more hard work than the average person can endure. If you are wondering how something as unlikely as a pro golfer unraveling can happen, here's why. The proper golf swing has many moving parts. Each of these, in turn, has a specific requirement like balance, force and timing. The amount of moving parts is a factor in mechanical efficiency. The greater the number of moving parts, the greater the amount of energy lost.

If you purchase the OVER THE TOP GOLF instructional DVD or should happen to see someone using the OTG swing, your first thought will be that there are more, not less, moving parts involved. In reality, this golf swing uses less force, requires less balance and timing, and has far less moving parts than the proper golf swing does. The fewer the number of moving parts, the greater the efficiency.

Have an incredible work ethic, sound mechanics and above-average physical skills or are you basically an easygoing, barely coordinated loafer like me? For me and my over the top golf swing, in order to create distance and maintain accuracy, the less moving parts the better. Things like force and timing are less critical. There's nothing wrong with going the conventional golf lessons route. If you are in balance and can hack the hard work and attention to detail, by all means try a proper golf swing. But if you lack any of what I've talked about in this article,  why do it?

sometimes less is better

MAKING CRISP CONTACT WITH THE BALL - GOLF INSTRUCTION FOR EVERYBODY

MAKING CRISP CONTACT WITH THE BALL - GOLF INSTRUCTION FOR EVERYBODY

ATLANTA, Georgia - Making crisp contact with the golf ball is a terrific feeling, isn't it? I often write golf instruction articles that seem geared toward higher handicap golfers, maybe because that's the largest consumer base for a golf guru like me. In my mind, as a writer, I'm subconsciously thinking about all the golfers to whom the feeling of making crisp contact is either completely unknown or perhaps just a fading memory. I imagine an older person reading this - or possibly a beginner, not a thirty year-old single-digit handicap golfer.

Well, if the better players reading this could speak to the not-so-proficient among us, they would explain how perfect a feeling it is to "nut" the ball, as Roy McEvoy so eloquently put it in the movie Tin Cup. It's an almost imperceptible sound, often described as a "click."  Stand near the first tee when the best golfers at your club, or perhaps the assistant pros, are taking their swings. There, you'll hear what it sounds like.

Those ladies and gentlemen who have the ability to click-click-click their way around a golf course probably came by it the usual way. Starting out at a young age, learning proper fundamentals and constant practice enabled them to build their swings on solid foundations. Is the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing useful instruction for really proficient golfers? Your emails and comments left on the blog don't tell me what handicaps you carry. Has my "golf swing optimization" method been a valuable tool for any club champions? I'd really be interested in knowing.....

When I first introduced OVER THE TOP GOLF, a descriptive term I used was "for the rest of us," meaning golfers who didn't have an opportunity to learn at a young age, before either bad pros, well-meaning buddies or your own idea of being self-taught turned you into a chocolate mess. OTG is a huge benefit for players with less-than-perfect foundations - golfers much like myself. The dynamics of the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing enables everyone to achieve the click that tells you made crisp contact. It automatically creates the momentum necessary to pull it off. It squares the club face at just the right moment. Ever notice how those golf pros and club champions are always smiling?

If you don't have that smile - get it. If you once had it - get it back. And if you are already smiling - it's possible that OVER THE TOP GOLF can make you smile even more.

FREE GOLF LESSONS? THIS IS REALLY OVER THE TOP.

FREE GOLF LESSONS?

PORT ST LUCIE, Florida - At a local driving range, a friend of mine, a local teaching pro sits and wonders why nobody is taking golf lessons. Anybody either pulling in or driving by the range can see his offer of free lessons on the marquee.

Despite a brisk business in buckets and no shortage of whiffers, duffers and hackers, it seems that none of these folks have any desire to improve their golf swings - not even free of charge. Since when did  free golf lessons become something to avoid?

What's the psychology behind this phenomenon? Are most golfers simply resigned to playing poorly? I'm aware, of course, that the pro teaches conventional, PGA-type golf instruction. Could the difficulty of trying to learn a "proper" golf swing be a deterrent? Maybe most golfers possess an innate fear of embarrassing themselves during a golf lesson.

Our later conversation revealed that most of his business is with repeat customers - golfers who take semi-regular lessons. Most of the public using the driving range, however, showed practically zero interest. So how about offering free golf swing lessons at a golf course instead of a driving range? Would there be an increased interest there?

I decided to Google "free golf lessons." In order to eliminate most of the come-ons like World Golf Village's free lesson day, designed to attract consumers to it's open house - basically a forest of vendor tents, I tried local searches like "FREE GOLF LESSON, MIAMI, FLORIDA." Doral has a "Kids receive a free golf lesson when accompanied by an adult who is paying for a lesson" and Costa Greens offers a "Pay for six lessons and get one free" deal. Other than those, nothing else on the first two pages of Google search results. I decided to look for free golf lessons in a smaller place, searching "FREE GOLF LESSON, CANTON, OHIO." Thought for a moment I was skunked until I saw a Yellowpages.com ad reading "Free golf swing lessons from golf's greatest...." Unfortunately, that link took me to Maplecrest Golf Club and Shea Golf Lessons, neither of which mentioned anything resembling "free" in their listings.

And what did I find by Googling "FREE GOLF LESSON, PORT ST. LUCIE, FLORIDA," where my friend's facility is located? There was no mention of free lessons at either his driving range or at any other golf course or driving range in the area. Looks like my friend, the golf pro, needs a lesson himself - in SEO that is.

Note to golfers....a free golf lesson is a good thing....go for it!

YOUR OVER THE TOP GOLF SWING - THE RULES OF PHYSICS AND GEOMETRY STILL APPLY

YOUR OVER THE TOP GOLF SWING
THE RULES OF PHYSICS AND GEOMETRY STILL APPLY

TAMPA, Florida - Almost like magic, the world of mathematics can appear in our lives at almost any time. Having even a rudimentary feeling for geometry and physics - the reasons behind why the golf ball responds to our impact upon it - making it go where it goes - is important. A haphazard, over the top, or outside-in golf swing is subject to the same rules of physics and geometry as the in-balance, perfectly-timed, inside-out golf swing. Certain key elements are necessary to make it all work properly to allow it to provide maximum benefits or results.
My primary objectives in golf may differ from yours. While I like playing matches, your preference might be for tournament play. Some play golf for money, others for glory, and yet many others just for the fun of it. Golf is a great game but without a solid swing the overall experience is a lot less satisfying.

Objective #1 is accuracy because attempting to score well from woods, hazards and tall grass isn't germaine to the program whether your playing for money or not. The OVER THE TOP GOLF swing primarily works toward achieving this. Straight is good. Are the physical and geometric alignments of your golf swing counterproductive? Don't feel inadequate. Almost 90% of amateur golfers need some form of golf swing optimization.

Objective #2 is distance mainly because using a shorter club for an approach shot almost always results in better accuracy. If your tee shots lag behind your opponents' or the others in your group your only two choices are to pull a hybrid or long iron; essentially courting disaster, or playing three to the green, a safer choice, however now a birdie will beat you every time. OVER THE TOP GOLF puts power into your golf game which instills confidence that you can hit almost any shot. It's just a matter of changing your set-up to take maximum advantage of your natural talents.

Objective #3 is the ability to scramble. This not only applies to golf course management but also you your golf swing itself. Just like getting yourself out of trouble on the course, you need to know how to fix your swing when it goes awry - and be able to do it quickly! In the case of the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing, there are just five set-up changes to keep in mind. Hence, it's a simple matter to correct your swing before doing too much damage. No lessons, swing coaches or golf pros necessary.

Conventional golf swings have specific requirements as to timing, balance, swing planes, etc. that, when learned correctly and performed properly, are a beautiful thing. That's why we pay to watch the Rory McIlroy's of the world. But these are difficult things to learn and maintain. For most of us, let's just say it's impossible.

That's why I created the OVER THE TOP GOLF SWING. I might not hit it as far or as straight as Rory but I hit it a lot farther and straighter than I ever did before and that's good enough for me. Would that be good enough for you? Well then, you know what to do next.

LOST YOUR GOLF SWING? DON'T PANIC - HERE'S THE QUICK FIX GOLF LESSON YOU NEED

LOST YOUR GOLF SWING?
DON'T PANIC - HERE'S THE QUICK FIX GOLF LESSON YOU NEED
FORT PIERCE, Florida - Your club's annual member-member golf tournament is just weeks away but you find yourself playing like crap. Even if there was time for some golf instruction, will it work or possibly make things take a horrible turn for the worse? A golf lesson can only do so much in a short amount of time, that is, unless it's my OVER THE TOP GOLF swing you are planning to learn.

Ask yourself whether it's possible for you to be hitting long, low drives that split the fairway each time. For many of us, such a scenario is hard to imagine but it's not only likely that you'll see great results but also that they will happen quickly.

A golfer who hits a slice or a weak fade, to use an example, can hit them one after another with great regularity. Have a lack of distance? Whatever you are doing in your golf swing to cause this is also something you do consistently. Of course, you want to cure these deficiencies and I'm guessing that you've tried. But for the most part you can't achieve good results by correcting your swing. "EXCUSE ME?" Yep, you read that correctly. Fix your deficiencies without fixing your golf swing.

OVER THE TOP GOLF isn't a golf lesson nor is it golf instruction. I like to call it "Golf Swing Optimization" which, translated, means using your presently ugly, ineffective golf swing, adding five set-up changes and becoming a 100% better golfer literally overnight.

Frankie C,

More of a promo for your swing than a comment, this article made a lot of sense so I bought your eBook.

It's a new me who shows up at the pro shop on Saturday morning. The thought of playing golf with someone new used to frighten me. Now I look forward to it, not only because of the shots I can hit now but its also fun answering questions about my Over the Top Golf swing.

Glad I read this article way back when and hope it inspires others to gain both yardage and confidence as I did.

TROLLING FOR THE BIG ONES - CHARLES BARKLEY - THE GREAT WHITE WHALE

Charles Barkley - The Great White Whale

NEW BEDFORD, Massachusetts - Yes, "The Great White Whale" is an unusual description for Charles Barkley. Although I do think he's great; although not so much his golf swing, Charlie obviously is not caucasian nor am I implying that he's fat - so why the moniker?

As fans of American literature know, aboard the whaling schooner Pequod, Captain Ahab's greatest quest was for the Great White Whale, Moby Dick. There were plenty of other whales in the sea but for Ahab there was but a single purpose for the voyage - hunting down and killing the White Whale.

The hunt by Ahab for the White Whale has become a metaphor for every man's greatest quest. For a golf instructor that would be Charles Barkley. As in Melville's novel where it seemed that neither Ahab nor any other ship captain from Nantucket would ever harpoon and subdue Moby Dick, the likelihood of anyone straightening out Barkley's golf swing is just as remote. But for the teacher who somehow fulfills this destiny and shows Charlie the path to future fairways,  his fortunes would change dramatically. Think Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are flush? Their wealth would pale against the riches of whomever manages to unravel the mystery of Barkley's ineptitude on the golf course.

A few days ago, I Twittered Charles Barkley that I'd like to use him for one of my advertisements - in particular, a photograph of the shocked look on his face after he drills a long, straight drive with his very first OVER THE TOP GOLF swing. It will depict amazement; it will show relief, and it would profit me greatly. Because unlike  Captain Ahab who ultimately perished, I will have succeeded in landing the Great White Whale.

GOLF SWING TECHNIQUES - OVER THE TOP GOLF IS JUST ONE OF THEM

GOLF SWING TECHNIQUES - OVER THE TOP GOLF IS JUST ONE OF THEM
BETHESDA, Maryland - Congratulations to young Rory McIlroy for his historic US Open win this weekend. An interesting comment from announcer Johnny Miller was that McIlroy has the best golf swing of any pro golfer playing today. The swing in question is not only powerful but it appears fluid and in perfect balance. Memories of Rory's Masters meltdown just a few months ago at Augusta National have been forgotten completely. Appointments for golf lessons, especially by young or even beginning players should skyrocket today. Everybody is going to want to swing like Rory. PGA teaching pros are about to experience a huge resurgence in golf instruction.

In another piece of US Open golf news, Aaron Baddeley missed the cut. In contrast with McIlroy's "perfect" golf swing, Baddeley's swing may not be so wonderful in Johnny Miller's mind. Miller commented that Aaron had been using a technique that wasn’t highly accepted in golf. He was talking, of course, about the Stack and Tilt method. Since abandoning that particular technique and going back to basics, Baddeley's struggles have continued.

It is an interesting dynamic when a successful PGA golfer like Baddeley abandons conventional golf teaching to explore unusual methods in order to improve. Even though Stack and Tilt competes with OVER THE TOP GOLF for attention in the golfing world, I loved the fact that a famous golfer would veer from the norm to try something different. If I wore hats, I would take mine off to Aaron and I wish him the best of luck in the future.

Which brings us to you, the amateur golfer looking to hit longer, straighter golf shots. As I mentioned, many will rush off to the nearest PGA pro who'll tell you that McIlroy's swing can be achieved by anyone willing to practice hard and keep up with lessons. Cha-ching as they say in Jersey. Lots of money will change hands but results will vary. Many lesson takers will improve somewhat. None of your golf swings, of course, will ever look like the second coming of young Rory.  Most of you, unfortunately, will become more confused than before.

Want a real chance at playing excellent golf? Have a desire to see your tee shots go twenty or thirty yards farther than they used to travel? Want a golf swing that makes you feel confident standing over the ball? Don't waste time and money trying to be Rory because it's not going to happen for 99% of you. Aim for something you can actually achieve. Buy my OVER THE TOP GOLF eBook, get the Stack and Tilt video or find a local golf teacher who has the integrity to admit that you will never, ever, ever have a golf swing like McIlroy's. Afterward, when you find yourself competing against one of those Rory wannabes; trust me, you will kick his ass.

I WANT YOU TO START DRAWING THE GOLF BALL - AN OVER THE TOP GOLF LESSON

HOW TO HIT A DRAW SHOT IN GOLF

DENVER, Colorado - There are many paths one can take to remedy golf swing problems such as slicing, lack of distance, shanks, etc. Which road to take is an important decision. Every golfer has considered whether or not to take another lesson. When golf instruction is mis-applied, usually by golf pros who expect each student to have just a little Tiger in him, months - even years - can be lost to confusion and frustration. First off, I must mention that the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing is the only method I know that doesn't force you to change the basic foundations of your golf swing. After watching my instructional eBook, if you aren't satisfied, you may go right back to your old swing. Not an easy thing to do after taking lessons. I'm pretty confident, however, that seeing a running draw come off the face of your driver will dispel any notion of going back. And as I've mentioned many times in my articles, once you learn this simplest of swings, you'll never need any more golf instruction. For me, even though I don't do it often, practice is fun. It's great when the golf ball does what you want it to do.

By comparison, you can't do that after golf lessons. After you've stepped through the portal of professional golf instruction - for better or worse - what once was will never be again. Be realistic. If you plan to keep up with periodic lessons and take the time to practice, a golf pro may be exactly what you need. But if you are like me, with no penchant for beating balls and very little time to spare, starting down the golf lessons road should involve some very careful thought.

________________________________________

Here is a very nice email I received from an OVER THE TOP GOLF student. I think the letter illustrates a typical reaction from someone trying this method for the first time.

Hi Frankie,

I finally got to play a 9 hole round using your swing method. I didn’t get a chance to get to the practice range prior to work on it. I did ok and hit some solid shots especially my last drive. However I hit most of my shots to the right. Not a slice, but a solid hit that went straight but to the right. What am I doing wrong and how can I correct it?

Looking forward to my next round.

Thanks,

Richard

You've got to love it when a student says he or she is "looking forward to their next round."

look forward to every day

MY QUEST TO BEAT TOM WATSON - BUY THE OVER THE TOP GOLF INSTRUCTIONAL EBOOK!!

NASSAU, The Bahamas - During 2008, OVER THE TOP GOLF began offering our golf instruction DVD to golfers looking for game improvement. Now, of course, you can learn my golf swing method via the OVER THE TOP GOLF eBook. As with most start-ups, word began spreading slowly about this new and as it is sometimes called, radical golf swing. Things began picking up in 2009 but it wasn't until 2010 that we sold a respectable number of videos. Now that my golf swing optimization method has been in the hands of a number of golfers, I am hoping to hear more positive stories of score and handicap improvements as well as tournament wins. Nothing is so gratifying as hearing how a 30 handicap golfer, along with his 30 handicap brother-in-law won the club's member-guest tournament using the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing.

Recently, a local golf pro mentioned to me that Tom Watson sold 25,000 golf instruction DVDs last year. "Good for Tom, was my response, and good for me, too." When the pro asked what was meant by my comment I replied "If Tom Watson can sell 25,000 DVDs then I should be able to sell 50,000, at the very least." Naturally, he looked puzzled so I elucidated further.

"Ninety percent of the golfers out here have exactly zero chance of swinging a golf club like Tom Watson but virtually all of them can start crushing the ball immediately with the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing. There are thousands of amateurs who have golf lesson videos gathering dust on a shelf. Sure, you may pick up a few helpful hints by watching Tom Watson's DVD but no one can configure their golf swing to resemble his - or more importantly, to perform like his. OVER THE TOP GOLF is different because it starts with the most solid foundation - your own swing. By learning the five set-up changes, your game - and life as you know it - will be transformed into something resembling paradise."

The golf pro thought about it and, instead of rolling his eyes, made a humorous remark that I'll never forget. " I'm a believer. Here is the twenty I owe you from our Nassau". And as he walked away he said "I'll make sure to tell Tom Watson to watch his back."

START PLAYING GREAT GOLF TOMORROW - A GOLF INSTRUCTION MIRACLE!

START PLAYING GREAT GOLF TOMORROW - A GOLF INSTRUCTION MIRACLE!
ATLANTA, Georgia - With a title like that, everybody reading today's article is naturally going to look for a disclaimer of some sort but, guess what? You won't find one. I wrote that you can start playing great golf tomorrow because its true. Regardless of whether you're a 40 Handicap or a scratch golfer, the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing will improve your golf game immediately. Can any other golf teacher make that claim?

Golf lessons can be scary. Right now, you can at least hit a golf ball. Will that still be the case after your golf instruction? How many dribblers and whiffs have you seen by golfers just coming off a battery of lessons? Although these are exceptions rather than the rule, it illustrates how things can go very wrong in a short amount of time.

OVER THE TOP GOLF is different. This isn't a golf lesson as much as a golf swing optimization method. If you are convinced that you need to scrap your swing and start over taking the golf lessons route, be prepared for hard work and commitment. Without periodic lessons and constant practice, most pros say that 80% of their students return to their old habits. Well guess what? Old habits die hard and golf is difficult enough without having to jump through hoops. Want to play great golf tomorrow? Yes, you can, and only because my method builds squarely upon your own golf swing. Can your current swing become a great swing? I've already answered that question. Now it's up to you to make it happen.

a golf instruction miracle!

OVER THE TOP GOLF - THE BEST GOLF SWING FOR SENIORS + WHICH TEE TO PLAY FROM

THE BEST GOLF SWING FOR SENIORS
Dear Frankie,

Now that both my wife, Ann (17 Handicap) and myself (8 Handicap) have gained confidence and gotten comfortable with the Over the Top Golf swing, I thought I would take the time to provide some feedback about your golf swing method plus a question about what tee to play from. First, both of us are now using your method. We consider it the best golf swing for seniors because longer tee shots matter. In terms of distance, as the golf ball experiences a great deal of roll after landing, my tee shots are longer by up to 40 yards while Ann's increased distance is even more. Suffice it to say we are both excited.

Which brings me to a second opinion - that your golf swing method is too good. Yes, that's right, we are both struggling with club selection because, unlike before where our usual approach shots were chronically short, we're hitting our approach shots (usually with mid irons or a hybrid) over greens and often power-hooking our wedges high but to the left of the target. It is as if we have a new-found strength but now have to find a way to harness it. Have you or do you experience this?

Last subject which concerns me only - which tee to play from? I'm 65 but usually find myself paired with younger members who play late in the afternoon. While they hit from either the men's or the championship tees, I play from the whites. This has been an agreeable arrangement until now because currently, on almost every long hole, I am the last one to hit from the fairway. Since I putt pretty well, I have been cleaning up as of late. My handicap improved to where I'm not getting strokes any more but the young guys want me to play from the men's tees now - if we're playing golf for money, that is.

While the issue of what tee box I'll be playing from is currently unresolved, what has been decided is that your Over the Top Golf Swing is the best golf instruction method we have seen for seniors. Your golf swing method has given us extra yards; in particular, longer tee shots, and a great deal more confidence.

Thanks again,

Terry from Phoenix, AZ

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE GOLF SWING - YOUR TORSO

LOS ANGELES, California - What OVER THE TOP GOLF does is give amateur golfers a golf instruction method by which they are guaranteed, at the very least, to perform the most important part of the golf swing correctly. The role of your torso is to provide power through rotation and weight transfer. The roles of your other body parts, regardless of how much golf teachers emphasize wrist cocks, delayed hits and the like, are merely supplemental. Improper weight shift is a distance killer. Many excellent players have what could be considered bad golf grips but all great golfers use their torsos properly. At a minimum, after learning the OVER THE TOP GOLF method, this is something you will have in common with them - even if you are a 30 handicap.

Pick up any book about golf instruction. Online you can find even more places to learn about the golf swing. One common thread you'll find is an emphasis on weight transfer and the rotation of the body. It should be the basis of your golf swing and is the foundation of OVER THE TOP GOLF.

http://golf--swing.blogspot.com  writes "The body’s most important movement in the swing is torso rotation."

Many golfers have serious swing flaws like an  improper weight shift, for instance. In a conventional golf swing, as your body turns, the weight should transfer from your right side to your left side. If a golfer has a tendency to hang back on the right side, as many amateur players do, torso rotation is interrupted. Now you don't have to worry about it. Learn the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing and your problem is solved. Trust me - you will automatically transfer your weight properly. And you'll be absolutely amazed by the difference.

"It is interesting that, in analyzing the physics of a golf swing, we see that the arms and wrists play a somewhat passive role, and yet a powerful hit results. So where does the swing energy come from? It comes from the muscles in the torso and shoulders which swiftly rotate the golfer's arms and club through the swing."

The preceding quotation is from the highly technical article http://www.real-world-physics-problems.com/physics-of-a-golf-swing.html in which the golf swing is analyzed, dissected and discussed in very specific detail. In addition to mathematical formulas that only Sir Isaac Newton could understand, there are many interesting theories explained in layman's terms. Well, not really but take a look for yourself. Remember folks, the optimal release angle to uncock your wrists is θo = 55-60°.

A STEVE MARINO STORY - SIMPLY AMAZING

A STEVE MARINO STORY - SIMPLY AMAZING

ORLANDO, Florida - I remember the first time I laid eyes on Steve Marino. It was around 2003, Steve was playing in a one-day qualifier for the Nationwide Tour's Glenmaura event. Even at this level, most of the guys out there presented themselves as neatly pressed as they were aloof. Marino was different. I could relate to his friendly, rumpled sort of appearance.

That day, Marino faded his way around a tight Pocono Farms golf course in 68, I believe, qualified for Scranton, and now, today, Sunday, March 27, 2011, is poised to win his first PGA Tour event, the Bay Hill Invitational in Orlando.

Simply amazing.

Almost as amazing is the improvement that golfers have enjoyed after learning the OVER THE TOP GOLF swing. When I see successful players like Steve Marino doing their own thing, I'm reminded that my golf swing optimization method is also unique. And it's as simple as the fade that Marino is using to bury the competition at Arnold Palmer's course. Like I said, simply amazing.
